Latest Research
New research confirms the effectiveness of Adjustable Velcro Compression Devices (AVCD) in healing Venous Leg Ulcers (VLUs) and highlights JOBST FarrowWrap. A prospective cross-over study of 50 patients with VLU compared 4-layer compression bandages (4-LCB) and AVCD. Patients received JOBST FarrowWrap or a 4-LCB system in the treatment of VLUs in the community setting. Efficacy, cost effectiveness and user satisfaction, for both patients and nurses, were assessed.
Patients experienced a comparable reduction in ulcer size with both compression modalities.
- Patient satisfaction results favoured JOBST FarrowWrap, with 90% of patients reporting ease of attending self-hygiene, and 85% reporting that it enabled them to wear their usual shoes.
- Nurse satisfaction results favoured JOBST FarrowWrap, showing the highest satisfaction in the ease of application and removal, and addressing perceived occupational health and safety concerns.
- Reported 43% faster application time for JOBST FarrowWrap compared to 4-LCB.
- 25% reduction in cost when treating VLU with JOBST FarrowWrap compared to 4-LCB.
Measuring Tips
Due to the nature of the tissues, at F and G, the difference between slight tension circumference (+) and maximum tension circumference (+++) can be considerable. Arm position can also impact circumference measures due to the effect of gravity.
In these cases we recommend:
1
Length measures: CF and CG measures should follow the contours of the inner aspect of the arm

2
Circumference E: measure as usual, with the elbow flexed at least 45 degrees. Check proximal E, just above the elbow. If this is larger, use this larger circumference.
3
- Measure F with slight tension (+), and G at skin tension (0) minus 0.5cm
- Take care not to measure too firmly, as the aim is to contain the soft upper arm tissue in the garment.
